About the Society
The Nigerian Meteorological Society was established in 1986 to promote the science of Meteorology in every aspect. Society's Philosophy: The Society philosophy is to advance the frontier of meteorology and its applications in Nigeria The Society therefore aims at: • Research and development of meteorological knowledge and applications in all sphere of human endeavors (such as in Agriculture, Water resources, Medicine, Engineering, Transportation etc) • Promoting and advancing the professional ideals of Meteorology. • Providing a forum for Scientists, Technologists, Decision Makers (Public, Private, Military), Planners and others interested in Meteorology and related Sciences to meet and exchange ideas. • Disseminating meteorological knowledge through Publications, Seminars, Workshops Radio and Television, etc. • Making its services and expertise available to government in regulating the practice of and training in Meteorology in Nigeria . |

World Meteorology day celebration was celebrated worldwide on March 23 2007. In Nigeria the celebration was organised by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) in conjunction with the Society at the NIMET operational headquaters Oshodi Lagos
Obituary
The burial ceremony for the late secretary General of World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) took place on 14th and 15th of June 2007 at Ogori, Kogi State, Nigeria.
